In chapter 4 of Romans we read that “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness” (4:3). In Genesis 15:5, 6 we learn what he believed—specifically that his seed would be as the stars of the heaven (see Gen. 32:12 where the metaphor is changed to “sand of the sea”). Abraham’s response to God was affirmative and God proclaimed him righteous. This brings us to our second point. Following the incarnation, death and resurrection of Christ Jesus, the gospel has come into sharp focus.
